Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS)

Application Procedure:

Should first apply online (Website:    http://www.study-shanghai.org  ).   Then print the Application Form of Shanghai Government Scholarship and submit the paper to the International Students Center (ISC) or the International College of Chinese Studies (ICCS) of Shanghai Normal University.
Deadline for application is May 31 every year.

Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS) is divided into 3 classes.
1) Class A —For Master"s applicants  (about RMB 50,000 per year per student) and
                            Ph. D. applicants (about RMB 60,000 per year per student) 
2) Class B —For undergraduates, Master and Ph. D. applicants (about RMB 20,000 per year per student) 
3) Class C —For registered undergraduates, Masters Ph. D. students (about RMB 5,000 per year per student)

Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS) for International Students (Class A/ B)

SGS Class A provides support for the outstanding international students who apply for Master’s degree or PH.D in Shanghai Normal University (SHNU). SGS Class A covers tuition fee, accommodation and international students’ insurance during their studies. Scholarship for Master’s degree program is about RMB 50,000 per year and scholarship for Ph. D. program is about RMB 60,000 per year.

SGS Class B provides support for the outstanding international students who apply for Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree or PH.D in Shanghai Normal University (SHNU). SGS class B is about RMB 20,000 per year.

1.       Qualifications

1)      The applicant should be of international citizenship with a good health.

2)      The applicant should hold an excellent school record.

3)      The applicant should not obtain any other kind of scholarships provided by Chinese government meanwhile.

2.       Contents and standards of the scholarship

1)       Tuition fee is covered by SGS Class A.

2)       Basic accommodation is covered by SGS Class A and allowance is distributed monthly with RMB 1100 for Master candidates and RMB 1400 for PH. D. candidates (Only SGS Class A ).

3)       Insurance fee is also covered by SGS Class A.

3.       Application materials

1)        Application Form for Shanghai Government Scholarship Class A/B (in Chinese or English) should be provided in duplicate.

2)        Certificate of the Most Advanced Studies (Notarized Photocopy).An undergraduate applicant should submit an in-school reference provided by the original college attached by Chinese or English version notarized, if not in either languages.

3)        Study Records of the Most Advanced Studies (Notarized Photocopy) attached by Chinese or English version notarized, if not in either languages.

4)        For those applying for Master’s degree or PH.D studies, study or research plan in China (no less than 1000 words) in English or Chinese.

5)        For those applying for Master’s degree or PH.D studies, two letters of recommendation in English or Chinese by (associate) professors of the original colleges.

Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS) for International Students (Class C)

SGS Class C provides rewards for the outstanding international students who have already studied in Shanghai Normal University in order to get Bachelor degree, Master degree or PH. D. The winners of SGS Class C can obtain reward money of about RMB 5000 for one time.

1.       Qualifications

1)  International students who have already studied in Shanghai Normal University in order to get Bachelor degree, Master degree or PH. D without obtaining any other kind of scholarships provided by Chinese government.

2)  Students who abide by the laws and rules of Chinese government and the educational arrangements of Shanghai Normal University.

3)  Students with clarified study purpose, diligence and outstanding records.

4)  Students who take an active part in different kind of socially useful activities and social practice carried out by Shanghai Normal University.

2.  Contents and standards of the scholarship

The winners of SGS Class C can obtain award money of about RMB 5000 for one time.
